VILLA PANDAN WANGI
Karangasem, Bali
___
Villa | 1025 sqm | 2022 - 2024

Villa Pandan Wangi is nestled in the heart of a Balinese village, close to the ancient water temple of Tirta Gangga. This 20 years old villa overlooks stunning views of the Bali Sea and Mount Agung, both of which can be admired from the lounge on the upper floor. The four bedrooms, located on the ground floor, each feature a private garden view. Given its well thought out layout and historical façade, our client sought to uplift the interior only of this classical villa with some modern touches, while maintaining a respectful attitude.

The interior is designed with context-contrast approach. Deliberate selection of materials and simplification of lines are intended to humbly enhance the existing atmosphere. The clean lines of the interior create a striking contrast to the classic exterior. Interior materials were chosen based on the exterior material palette; for instance, elegant white marble was used as an uplift from the exterior white ceramic tiles, while light teak wood was selected as a contemporary alternative to the exterior dark wood. The interior furniture also features simple lines, contrasting with the ornate exterior furniture.

The bedrooms and bathrooms were designed with a very contrast in mind, as they are entirely interior spaces. However, in semi indoor areas such as the balcony, dining room, and lounge – which serve as transitions between exterior and interior spaces – the design also approached as semi contrast. This spectrum of contrasting elements enriches the spatial experience. In order to maintain harmony between interior and exterior spaces, old and new furniture were deliberately mixed and placed, allowing the old furniture to be appreciated as artworks.

The context-contrast approach tells a story about time through details and materiality, aiming to foster greater visual awareness among guests about the history and present, and create an unforgettable stay at this villa.
